mindful closet anti-racist small business plan

This is my pledge as the owner and sole employee of mindful closet:

  1. Commit to using 10% of weekly working hours on anti-racist education

  2. Commit to a recurring donation of 10% of monthly profits to Jamaa Birth Village in St. Louis. Women having access to quality holistic prenatal care is a cause close to my heart, and Black women in the U.S. are 3 times more likely than white women to die in childbirth. Jamaa, which means family in Swahili, is an equal access midwifery clinic. Jamaa empowers families by celebrating cultural heritage in a community care setting and combats racial & health inequities.

  3. Examine personal and business expenses to see where they can be shifted to support Black-owned businesses, with the goal being 30% of total expenses going to Black-owned businesses.

  4. Add anti-racist content to my editorial calendar, in equal weight as the other categories I focus on: motherhood, minimalism, ethical fashion, anti-consumerism, simple styling, body positivity, mental health. Amplify the voices of BIWOC (Black and Indigenous women of color) and create authentic partnerships over time.

  5. Participate in a monthly accountability group to share my learnings and progress.

  6. Publish this permanent statement that illustrates my commitment to diversity, inclusion, equity, and anti-racism on my website and all external-facing documents.
